How Personal Branding is Making Headway in Japan [Video Interview]
How Personal Branding is Making Headway in Japan [Video Interview] How often do you get to chat with someone whos a true pioneer? We just had a chat with the first (we think) personal branding consultant in Japan, our great friend Peter Sterlacci who is based in Kyoto, Japan. Peter is an American based in Japan for over ten years and he is quickly becoming that countrys go-to guy for personal branding. Being a long-term resident in a country where âfitting inâ is the cultural norm, Peter understands the challenges facing Japanese professionals to âstand-outâ. He is dedicated to empowering on-the-move careerists in global companies in Japan to âbreak awayâ from the pack and ride to success. As you can tell by the picture above he loves his bicycling and nicely embeds this passion into his own brand. See what he had to say here and be sure to check out his guest post How Personal Branding is Just Like Riding a Bike. On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Why Men Dont Take Women Seriously at Work
On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Why Men Don't Take Women Seriously at Work Are you one of those women who carries a handbag big enough to hold all your essentials? Like lip balm, a change of shoes, a first responder medical kit, a small sewing machine and a hair straightening iron? If so, youre obviously prepared for any event that may arise while youre at work, rather its frizzy hair or a small dagger wound. But youre also sending a very strong signal to others in your office that youre not someone to be taken seriously. Its a common pitfall for women: They want to be prepared to help anyone at anytime. But in the workplace that can also be perceived as playing mommy. Or seen as a deep-seated need to be liked, which makes them ripe for someone to take advantage of them. There have been several books on the subject of perceptions of women in the workplace, with some advising women to channel their inner witch (OK, the word rhymes with witch) to get ahead and stop being a nice girl. But if the thought to becoming Cruella De Vil holds no appeal for you, think a bout ways you can stop sending the wrong signals.Among them:Talking about personal issues. This can range from how youre PMSing to how your significant other is a total jerk because he got you a Swiffer WetJet for your birthday. Men in your office could care less and wonder why youre bringing it up. And, yeah, youve just given them license to hint that youre PMSing whenever you disagree with them.Showing cleavage. Heres the deal: If you can see your cleavage, so can everyone else. Despite the idea that maybe youre attracting the men in the office with a little boobage...(read the rest here)

Every weekday on YouTube, Iâll be answering YOUR questions and I am super excited!! If you have a question you would like me to answer on a future episode of CCGTV, leave a comment below or email me at anna@classycareergirl.com. Question: âShould I make my social media profiles public if I am job searching and dont want my employer to know?â â" Teresa Does Social Media Help (or Hurt) You When Job Searching? Answer: HELPS! Make them public! But you should not say you are job searching on them if you are worried that your employer might find out. The goal is to put out great content because recruiters will see this when they google your name. You want to show your expertise and your knowledge. You want them to see why they need to hire you. You basically want to demonstrate everything that you put on your resume, online on your social media account too. I definitely think social media is huge for job searchers right now. This is what will help you stand out from the rest of the competition. Especially if you area applying to a company that utilizes social media. I highly recommend you are using them Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram people are finding jobs! Even Facebook too. Yes, they can be public. Dont say you are job searching. If you are nervous about putting yourself out there with a new skill or expertise and posting things with your employer, you can come up with a keyword and be anonymous. Back i 2010, my face was nowhere on this site either was my name. I was known as Classy career Girl because I was scared to go public because I didnt want my employer to see that I was blogging at that time. So yes go public. Put yourself out there. Executive Summary Resumes - Do You Make These Mistakes?
Executive Summary Resumes - Do You Make These Mistakes? When you are writing the perfect executive summary resume you want to avoid many of the common mistakes that people make when they are writing. Here is a list of some of the more common errors and how to avoid them.Executive summary resumes are used as what is called a short version resume. These should be formatted in a way that it does not look like you are cramming. A very simple layout with basic information in a format that does not take up much space will do.Remember that your summary resumes should not be overly long. If your summary is over 30 pages it is too long. It is best to start the summary at about half the length of the actual resume. You don't want to go to a full page just to summarize your work history and give your potential employer a good idea of what they are looking at.Executive summary resumes are written by filling out the summary with relevant information in it. This is what should be included. It can be hard to find time in your day to write a single, concise, informative executive summary resumes. But if you can get a little extra help from one of those online services you can save yourself a lot of time and avoid many of the common mistakes that people make when they are writing their own.Another mistake that is often made when writing the summary resumes is to put too much information on the summary. In some cases the summary itself can tell the employer all they need to know. They really need to only highlight the most important aspects of the job search.A very common mistake is that people forget to follow up on the summary. If the person did not get a callback the summary was not written and therefore it doesn't work. By following up on the summary by sending out a follow up email to the person in question it will send the message that you are still interested in the position. There are many more mistakes that are made when you are writing the summary resumes. What these tips will show you is that it can be relatively easy to avoid the mistakes that are so often made. You just have to understand what the summary of the resume should contain and what you want it to say.

WorldBlu Live 2008 This years most exciting business conference - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
WorldBlu Live 2008 This years most exciting business conference - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Ill be speaking at WorldBlu Live 2008 (October 16+17 in New York), the best and most exciting business conference I know. The theme is Democratic Organizations, i.e. organizations that believe in and practice freedom, openness, transparency and engagement instead of top-down, command-and-control management. There will be some GREAT speakers there I particularly look forward to hearing Bill Taylor, Tim Sanders and Cali Ressler and Jody Thompson, Co-authors of the best-selling Why Work Sucks and How to Fix It. Another major treat is the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, who have won Grammy awards despite the fact (or because of it) that they have no conductor. But the most interesting thing will be to hear from CEOs who practice organizational democracy on a day-to-day basis and learn from organizations who know how to do it and achieve success through it. Check out this short video invitation from WorldBlu: The last WorldBlu conference in Washington DC was one of the most inspiring business conferences I have ever attended I have never seen so many cool, fascinating and fun people gathered in one place. If this sounds interesting to you, check out the web site and go sign up. I also have upcoming gigs in the UK and France, so theres some serious travel in my future :o) Thanks for visiting my blog. Going to DC and Seattle - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Going to DC and Seattle - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Im going to 2 conferences in the US in november. First Im going to World Dynamics conference for democratic CEOs in Washington DC arranged by Traci Fenton and her crew, and after that Im going to Washington state to be a part of the Practice of Peace conference. While these two conferences look quite different on the surface, I actually believe theres a huge overlap between them and with the happiness at work project. If youre in DC or Seattle, and would like to meet and talk, drop me an email. Im available om november 6 in DC and on november 13 and 14 in Seattle. Also if you know of a place I could stay in Seattle, Id like to hear about it. A big thank you to Kasper of Culture Adventure for the excellent travel arrangements. If youre travelling, I can definitely recommend him. Thanks for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should check out this list of my 10 most popular articles.
